It was decided on the night of the first day of the CNY that we would take a road trip to Kukup the next day with my parents and brother. Love spur-of-the-moment trips like this! =P
The plan was to drive to Kukup and book a chalet and stay overnight there if we found enough things to do there. Otherwise, we’d drive back at night. Even though that meant spending a fair bit of time in the car, I really look forward to such trips because it brings back very fond memories for me from my childhood days – We used to drive 5 hours to KL to visit our relatives every CNY. Such great times they were!
My parents woke up bright & early at 6am, and started bombarding my mobile phone with calls. Thankfully, I had it switched to silent mode. =P I woke up at 730am and returned the call, and was told that they were driving over to my house soon! Quickly got the kids ready, and off we went to JB for breakfast!
Dim sum for breakfast is LOVE.
The kids are always thrilled around their grandparents. =) With them around to help me with my kids, I can enjoy myself too.
It was a hearty breakfast! =)
All ready to set off for Kukup! We were not sure of the way, but just depended on road signs. Thankfully we didn’t get TOO lost! =P Always head towards Pontian if you are going from S’pore/JB. From Pontian, you’ll find directional signs to Kukup.
After a two-hour drive, we reached Kukup!
Kukup is an old fishing village. I love the old & rustic feel in that place. =) In between wooden houses along the streets, you can see sea water floating in between with loads of rubbish on it of course.
The interesting thing about Kukup town is that there are ‘parking services’ provided. See this carpark area? It’s operated by one of the carpark companies. From the main town centre, you just need to drive and follow the designated vans to this carpark, and you can park your car here for RM5 for one whole day! Then the van will fetch you right back to the town centre (which is a mere one-minute drive away). After you are done touring Kukup and wish to pick up your car, just wait around for the van to appear and hop on for a ride back. Easy and simple! There are no parking woes in Kukup! And your cars are sheltered from hot sun and rain. Awesome max.
The skies in Kukup are full of fluffy clouds. Glorious hot sun but windy throughout because it’s a town built on top of the sea!
We decided to hop on to a boat that would bring us to the mangrove swamp forest for a tour. It cost us RM5 per adult for the boat ride. Kids ride for free.
The kids love boat rides. =)
Continued in Part B!
