Celebrating Independence Day In Singapore

Last weekend, we were invited by American friends to the Independence Day Celebration held at the Singapore American School (SAS). Our friends' kids study at SAS and it was the first time the celebration was held there, and so we went!

Peter & Lannie (in red) were the ones who invited us, and it was such a fun and casual event. Everyone's on picnic mats splashed everywhere on the huge field. The smell of food was in the air and there were many others playing frisbee. Kids were running everywhere too and having so much fun.

The event is open to members of the public, so you can see many Singaporean families gathered there too. =) On a stage at the other side of the field, there's live performances and many kids were even dancing on stage.

The carnival was interesting and fun with game stalls, bouncy castles and game stations like these:

Such an old school game that I haven't seen in a long while! =D That guy got dunked into the pail many, many times over.

And of course, what's a carnival without yummy food? There was beer, cocktails, hotdogs, burgers, french fries, pita, kebabs etc. It was a feast for the eyes even.

Many people came in costumes and tees printed with the US flag. =)

I really like such carnivals! So free, so relaxing and so fun. If you've followed my blog long enough, you'd know I have a love for picnics! It's totally my kind of thing. Haha!

There were our kiddos. =) So sweet to see that these three had become close friends! =D

Awwwwwww.... =)

The ceremony had its typical speeches by various ones, though they were all short & casual. The Singapore National anthem was sang, followed by the US anthem. We were told by our friends that it is a common practice for them to sing the host country's anthem before their own. I thought that was a really nice touch.

Baby Jayne was so happy, can you see?? =D

And as we waited for the final programme for that night, we munched on our footlong hotdog. So yummy. I think the venue and the companions played a big part.

The finale for the night was beautiful fireworks! They were so near to us, right in front of our eyes! Beautiful much, and a perfect end to our evening.
