LolliBox Review: We Grew Some Plants! (& A Giveaway)

Sponsored Review

All parents know that the real challenge in raising kids is not in making sure that their stomach are full and that they have clothes on their backs, but how to enrich their minds and develop them into good people who are maximising their potential in life.

Kids have limitless energy and creativity, and more often than not, we parents are the ones struggling to keep up with them. We have to constantly think of activities to do with them that can help stimulate their young minds and hopefully, enrich their minds. But the truth is even though we all know that such activities are important and helpful to our kids, we don't do them often enough simply because it is TEDIOUS. Yes, it's tedious to think of different activities. It is tedious to get down to planning how to get them done. It is tedious to prepare all the necessary materials and equipment. OK, maybe I'm the only lazy mum around. But seriously? On most days, I just feel like lying on my couch and do.absolutely.nothing.

But of course, mums have been bestowed with this heavenly duty of nurturing their kids even when we don't feel like it. And so (thank God!), LOLLIBOX COMES TO THE RESCUE!

LolliBox was born out of the passion for hands-on fun that develops creativity and expression in every child. It is a box full of art & craft materials and detailed instructions and learning points of every craft project, delivered right to your doorstep! Talk about convenience! We mums LOVE anything convenient. In a nutshell, LolliBox provides the avenue and means for us to bond with our kids using mind-enriching art & craft activities. What an ingenious idea.

So our LolliBox arrived, and we were super excited because:

1. The J Babies LOVE art & craft anything, especially Joey.

2. We had absolutely NO IDEA what's inside the box! Every box contains craft ideas surrounding a particular theme (new theme every month!) and if you are on a 3-month or 6-month subscription, you won't know what you've got until you opened it.

3. We were BORED. Period.

And then TADA! Mystery unveiled! Our project is the GROW PLANT GROW! There are 2 projects in the box - Plant our own plants (and chart their growth along the way) and to design our own flower pot. =) Sounds fun already!

We opened our package and found these cards that explained what the projects were about - The learning points and the main highlights to watch out for during the process. For every project completed by the kid, the mum/dad will present a badge to them as an encouragement at the end. If you collect 10 different LolliBox badges, you will even receive a mystery gift! That's some kind of motivation for sure.

We decided to embark on the 1st project - I Am A Little Gardener!

In this project, Joey will plant two different pots of seeds and watch them grow over the next few days. There are Observation Journals for her to chart down their growth and development, and to see which plant grows faster. This reminds me so much of my Primary School days when I did many projects in the Science Club to earn my Little Botanist badge! =P

We were given two transparent containers, 2 packets of seeds (1 pack of green beans & another pack of black beans), some cotton buds & a dropper.

The projects are made simple enough for the kids to do it themselves. I read out the step-by-step instructions and Joey followed. She put in cotton buds into each container, wet them with water and put in the seeds into the respective containers.

Joey was very excited about how the seeds will turn out!

Joey also wrote the labels for the containers herself. =)

We are mighty proud of our little project! =D

Then we moved on to the 2nd project of decorating our little flower pot.

These were the materials we found inside the box. Everything is provided, including colouring pencils!

This was simple. All Joey needed to do was to colour the flower and leaves, cut them out, decorate the pots and plant the flower in.

Sticking on the small mosaic cubes onto the pot seemed like an easy thing to do, but for kids, it takes some fine motor skills, concentration and patience (which they don't have a lot of).

DONE!

Time for the final step, which is to put in the clay as a base in the pot, so that the flower can be stuck in it.

The project is finished! =D We spent about 45 minutes for both projects, and I'm sure Joey had fun. =)

After 2 days..............

This is what our plants look like! As expected, the green beans sprouted first, and the black beans still looked unchanged for the time being.

The green beans are too crowded, don't you agree? =X

Jayne is proud of Jie Jie Joey's little project too! =) We will continue to watch how the plants are growing over the next few days!
