In celebration of Sentosa's 40th Anniversary and in conjunction with the Singapore Food Festival, Sentosa is doing a BBQ By The Beach event for a limited 10 days on 13 -22 July. When I first heard about it, I thought, "What a great idea!" I have fond memories of dining by the beach in Bali, and I remembered how much I loved and enjoyed it. Hearing the sea waves has this mysterious power to enhance your dining experience, don't you agree? =)
Hubby was invited by omy.sg to attend the media preview of Sentosa BBQ By The Beach last Thursday, and Joey & I tagged along. This signage definitely attracted the attention of those who walked past - The look of it as well as the smell! The BBQ smell in the air was just so.......... AWESOME!
Look at this boat-like structure set up for the BBQ. Joey was intrigued by it. I guess kids don't really get to see burning charcoal at such close proximity. =)
This is the regular charcoal grill section, which is also the most commonly used method of BBQ.
We were early, and went to check out the setup of the dining area. Doesn't this look gorgeous?? A neat row of tables with blue-checked table cloth lined the jetty bridge that extends out to the sea. Such a peaceful and serene sight. I really, really liked what I saw.
I saw how the tables were set up and I wondered why it was so elaborate. I thought we were having BBQ?? You'll understand the mystery as you read on. =)
The place was so lovely. I felt so relaxed just by being there. =)
Lots of families hanging around at the beach area.
Oooh I like how they decorated the jetty with torches like that. =)
As you can see, Joey liked the place as well. Even demanded that I take a photo of her doing this weird pose. =X
Overlooking the beautiful sea, hearing the sound of the sea waves and knowing that we were going to see a gorgeous sunset soon. It already felt like such a wonderful evening. =)
Sun sets..
I'm sure you're curious what's offered on the menu right? =) For $29.90++ per pax, you will receive $30 dining voucher which you can use to order food. When I saw the dishes offered, I was surprised at the presentation! It looked like fine dining! For a BBQ by the beach, I thought everything was going to be casual and free & easy, but so much effort was put into making every dish look delectable and pretty! No wonder the table ware were all nicely placed. =)
I didn't manage to take photos of every dish available, but there were lots of seafood - prawns, fish, crayfish, squids, etc and you can also find beef, chicken, lamb, sausages, ribs. Lots of good food to fill your stomach!
Marinated Grilled Cod’s Tongue with jalepeno and tomato salsa
Crusted Lemon Sole with fennel, lemon, capers and dill
Salt-wrapped parcel of Monkfish, Black Mussels and Sweet Shrimps with a touch of white wine and roasted tomato
Crispy Baby Squid in BBQ Sesame Sauce
Grilled Seafood Platter – king prawns, squid, salmon, baked potato and corn on cob
BBQ Mango Butter Crayfish with creamy mango butter cream
BBQ Lamb Skewers with capsicums
This is my personal favourite (also Joey's!) -Bonito Infused Cod Fish with Mushroom & Garlic Fried Rice! It was so yummy!!! And very, very kids-friendly! =)
Corns on roast. =D Lovely sight and lovelier smell!
All the chefs looked happy doing their BBQ-ing, which I'm sure translated to yummy food for everyone!
Apart from the traditional charcoal BBQ, this event also highlights 2 other interesting BBQ method (photos from hubby's blog):
Traditional Hawaiian underground oven (also known as 'imu') - We tasted the chili fish that came out of this oven, and it was SUPER DUPER YUMMY!!!

And this is known as the Vertical Grill, which was used to BBQ skewers of prawns and squids. =)

To make your dining experience even more memorable, you will have musicians and singers who would appear by your table and sing you a song of your choice. They were such talented performers! I was seriously mesmerized by their singing and harmony. Their guitar skills were unmatched too! Definitely one big plus for the evening!! =)
This is a short video I recorded of their voices. =)
Because Sentosa BBQ by The Beach is on Siloso Beach, we could actually catch a glimpse of the Songs of the Seas from where we were. We saw balls of fire that shot up into the sky and of course, the short display of fireworks at the end of the performance. Imagine having good food in a lovely place with sea breeze and sounds of the sea waves, while watching fireworks. It's too awesome!!! This event should be a permanent feature and not a mere 10-day event!
Took another short video clip of the fireworks. Hehe..
Go try the Sentosa BBQ By The Beach before the event ends! I think the dining experience is really romantic and very good for the soul. At least I had a really great time! =D
