Weekend Snippet: I Bought A Toy Camera

Some of you might have noticed that my photographs look somehow different since last Friday's post. The sad truth is that my G12 has gone to heaven, and in place of her, I bought a new Canon Powershot A2400 IS. Quite frankly, I don't have high expectations of this camera at all. It's a new model, but it's a low-end model that cost me only $169. And, it doesn't come with stabilizer, so I'm not sure how the photographs will turn out especially when the subjects are hyperactive kids.

But I've since found a function in the camera that I'm really happy with. Under the Scene mode, I could choose to shoot with different scenes, and my absolute favourite (which I have been using in the last few days' photos) is the TOY CAMERA mode. It basically makes the photos look filtered like instagram or lomography, with a darkened border. I love the look!

I thought I show you how the photos turn out differently when I shoot in different scenes:

Auto mode (No scene)

Toy Camera

Fish-eye (set to moderate only, so the effect is not very obvious)

Miniature

Monochrome

Super Vivid

Poster Effect

Live - Warm (In this mode, I can adjust the warmth, darkness and brightness and see the effect live on screen before snapping a shot)

Live - Cool

There is also a discreet mode that I can select which disables all flashes and sounds if I need to shoot in a very discreet/quiet place such as the library or the museums. Nice touch! The video camera function also allows the format of iFrame, which is compatible on i-devices that are so common nowadays.

My new camera totally feels like a toy camera, and I'm loving it! Looking forward to capturing more shots to share with you on this blog. =)

Before I go, this is a 4-shot series I did recently for a facebook group I belong to. =P So act cute I can't stand myself.
