Tuesday is a late night for me every week. I have meetings late into the night, and by the time I reach home, my kids are both asleep. The Tuesday that just passed, I got home to a big shock: The whole of Baby Jayne's face was SWOLLEN!
At first, I thought she had some allergic reaction which caused the swelling. Then, I realised that those were actually very fierce insect bites. There were 5 to 6 bites on her face (and no where else, strangely), and because there were bites on both her eyelids & eyebrow area, her eye area swelled up so badly that she couldn't open her eyes fully. =( Yes, it was as bad as it sounded. It took me a full minute staring into her face before I could believe it was for real.
I dare not take her photos or post any here, simply because it is too scary-looking. She looked like she got into a bad fight and had her face punched many times over. It was so heart-wrenching! Scratching the bites worsened the condition, but I could imagine how itchy they were. The more she scratched, the bigger the swelling. Sigh...
So we brought Baby Jayne to see our GP and he prescribed anti-itch medication and a cream to apply on the bites. Hopefully, the swelling can go down in a couple of days, otherwise, we would have to go back for follow-up checks and possibly get antibiotics. So far, the cream's worked pretty well and the swelling seemed to have subsided quite a bit.
What comforts me in the midst of it all is how positive and happy Baby Jayne stays. Even though the bites are causing her discomfort, she keeps up her optimism. She didn't whine and she didn't complain. When I applied the cream on the bites and reminded her not to touch the areas, she tried her very best. At times, I admire her for her feistiness - Pretty nothing much can get her down. For that, I'm very grateful.
Hate the ugly swelling! I want my pretty baby back again.
