I love my girls with all my heart, I really do. But I am not a saint. I am FARRRRRRRRRR from being one, in case you have your doubts. But if I need to pinpoint one thing about my perfect girls that gets on my nerves is the little game they love to play. I cannot understand how much fun it is, and it is, to put it bluntly, irritating to the max.
I choose to believe that everyone else's kids play that irritating game too. Yes, it doesn't make sense mine are the only specially irritating ones.
Let me attempt to explain this little game to you in simple terms:
It's the game that goes, "Nei nei nei bu bu, you cannot catch me!" in that annoying, familiar tune. It is pretty simple - One would suddenly burst into a skip one step ahead and stick both hands' thumbs on the cheeks and do a slight waving movement with the rest of the hands, while chanting the nei-nei-nei-bu-bu tune at another. Then sprint off as quick as possible in the opposite direction. The person who got taunted would instinctively chase after the person who started it all, and both parties would engage in a circular chasing-after-each-other activity, commonly known as 'catching'.
You would think I should have higher tolerance for such activities because I was sure to have been involved in something similar as a kid. I might have, but I seriously cannot remember. And surely that wouldn't warrant a retribution sowing-and-reaping?
I am not unreasonable, and I do understand that kids need to have their fun moments. But surely playing the same irritating game for a full 30 minutes is more than I can take. Couple that with lots of nonstop screeching laughter, and you get a sure-win drive-me-crazy formula.
Sometimes, giving them snacks can break them out of that irritating game. Other times, it doesn't work. But I just have to try, even if it's for a few moments of peace and quiet.
If for some reason or another, your kids do not play such games and only love silent reading, seriously thank your lucky stars. You must have done something right, and I need to have a chat with you real soon.
