Let me start by saying, "I really like the new Mid-autumn themed floral display at Gardens By the Bay!" :)
I love how the whole atmosphere was filled with a spirit of celebration as the new displays within the Flower Dome brought out the mid-autumn feel, and all the colourful flowers definitely lifted up my spirits! The girls couldn't stop snapping photographs with their cameras, and they probably would shoot every inch of the garden if we didn't stop them. I can hardly blame them - everywhere we went, we saw more beautiful and colourful flowers!
I had specially asked my mother-in-law to join us for the tour because I know she loves flowers. She couldn't stop commenting on how pretty everything was.
And I like how you can learn more about the festival with little signboards like these spotted here and there among the displays. We can all learn something about traditional festivals like these, and preserve the deep meaning behind it all. Pretty interesting.
The new Mid-Autumn themed floral display in the Flower Dome features three striking dragonfly lanterns perched amidst a field of vibrant flora such as "lantern flowers" like Begonias and autumn-blooms like Chrysanthemums, Astilbes and Celosias, while Chinese lanterns add to the festive ambience and traditional paper cut-outs illustrate the myths and legends behind this festival. The chrysanthemums were my favourite - they were in so many different colours and they made the whole display design look seamless.
Good news for those of you planning to check out the new displays - There will be an extension of operating hours till 11pm and a 15% discount on admission tickets to the conservatories from 13 to 22 September 2013.
If you think that's all, you are very wrong! Besides the Flower Dome's mid-autumn themed display, you can also check out the rest of Gardens by the Bay (the free areas, yes!) for many more interesting displays! From now until 22 September 2013, the Mid-Autumn Festival @ The Gardens 2013 is also happening, with a colourful display of handcrafted lanterns in the outdoor gardens and The Meadow, with exciting performances and competitions where proceeds go towards The President's Challenge 2013!
You need to check out the displays yourself to know what a feast it was for the eyes at night! :)
Love these floral lanterns - So pretty!
You can also purchase a water lantern and let it float down the river. It should be quite a pretty sight if the river's full of them.
Someone's lantern with a prayer of blessing for the year ahead. :)
The colourful displays would thrill the kids because everything's so cute and cartoony.
Oh yes, there were even dinosaurs.
We walked past a series of Chinese masks like these, and I thought the girls might be scared of them. I was apparently being paranoid. That was Jayne drinking water coolly next to one of them.
In my opinion, the mid-autumn themed displays at Gardens by the Bay are totally worth checking out. Soak and immerse yourself completely in this festival this year and have lots of fun with your family! :)
