The Discipline Master

When you were growing up, who was the discipline master in your life? Your Dad or your Mum?

For me, it has always been my Mum. She’s the one who nags, scolds and canes, and also the one who encourages, edifies and affirms. My Dad, on the other hand, was a typical Chinese dad who was very cool and aloof. He seldom scolds me & my brother, not to mention cane us, and he is always the one we run to when my Mum picks up the cane. (Alas if the caning happens during the day when Dad is at work of course.)

Though Mum played a bigger role in my growing-up years, I have to admit that I am actually closer to Dad. Perhaps it’s because I can communicate better with him, and he does not nag, which is a super plus point. I think I was very much a Daddy’s girl. Still is. :)

In Joey’s life now, her Daddy is the discipline master. While she loves Daddy super a lot (to a point that makes me jealous), she is also most afraid of him. Mummy (me) can repeat an instruction 10 times, and Dad just needs to say ONCE. Once is all that is needed to get Little Joey moving. I think I am beginning to think that I was probably the one who turned my Mum into a nag.

Both Isaiah & I discipline Joey, but I do the small-matter disciplining while Isaiah handles the big-matter disciplining. When any matter escalates to Isaiah’s level, Joey knows that she’s in trouble. It’s usually because she conveniently didn’t hear the 10 times I was yelling at her to stop doing something (“Stop playing with your saliva!!!”) or to start doing something (“Come & bathe NOW!!!!!”), or when I clearly told her to do something and she gave me attitude (“I don’t want to do it.”), and Daddy had to step in before I become a hysterical mad woman.

I really don’t understand why actually. I’ve analyzed the situation many times before. I tried imitating Isaiah in the tone he uses to tell Joey not to do something. I tried raising my voice and looking really scary. Most of the time, Joey would look non-chalantly at me, as if she could see through me – Mummy is just putting on a front. She can’t bear to beat me. Chey.

Well, I admit I really give super a lot of verbal warnings before I actually whip out the cane. I mean, one should always be given lots of second chances in life, isn’t it? ok fine, I’m just too softhearted.

Even though Daddy is the discipline master at home, Joey still loves him very much, and goes all out to please him. I don’t even get the same kind of treatment even though I am the one who buys more clothes and toys for her. It’s really not fair. Haha.. But I think it’s natural that daughters all love their daddies. In their eyes, their daddies are more macho than Superman and more charming than James Bond. Their daddies can do ANYTHING.

She & The Swimming Pool

Brought the girls to a friend’s house and Baby Jayne loved the swimming pool!

The lovely swimming pool.

The girl was whiney before she saw the pool.

DSC06702

When I brought her near to the pool, she just kept staring at it…

The reason why her head is so huge in the photos is because I was carrying her with one arm and taking the photos with the other. :)

Baby Nigel Is ONE!

Our dear friends, Bruce & Shaun’s baby Nigel turned ONE yesterday!

The birthday bash was held in a holiday bungalow near to Pasir Ris Beach, and it was big and spacious for the many guests who came.

One of the rooms was converted into a children’s room, and it was there all the kids played and enjoyed themselves while the adults could enjoy time fellowshipping with one another outside. Great idea! =)

Challenge #1

Baby Jayne has encountered the very first challenge in her life thus far.

DSC06634

GETTING USED TO A NEW BED.

I know how tough that is for some adults even, so I’m not complaining. Apparently, mattresses have different softness and those from Mothercare and Ikea are obviously different.

The mattress Baby Jayne sleeps on at home is from Ikea. We bought her cot from them, so the mattress has to be from there as well (Clever Ikea makes their cots in such custom sizes that we have no choice but to buy the mattress la!). The mattress in the office nursery is from Mothercare and can you believe it, ever since she started joining the office nursery last Thursday, she has not slept in that cot yet!

DSC06635

The workers have managed to carry and pat her to sleep in their arms, but the moment they put her down into the cot, she starts to wail. Even if they did succeed in putting her in, she wakes up after at most 1 hour. Sigh.

As part of their drastic measures to get her to sleep more, the workers started putting her into this rocking chair which automatically rocks her continuously until she falls asleep. There was one day she was asleep in that thing for 5 consecutive hours! She had gotten so comfortable in it that even without the rocking movement, she falls asleep in it herself.

DSC06506

Of course, I would want her to get as much sleep as possible, but I do hope that she can sleep in the cot instead of in a rocking chair. The rocking chair is in the common area where all the toddlers and babies gather, so it’s very bright, noisy & rowdy most of the time. Even if Baby Jayne is asleep, I think it’s very disturbed sleep. (I would scream if I have to sleep in that environment!) The room with the cots is totally different – dark, cool and basically a super nice environment to sleep in.

I can only pray that Baby Jayne can start getting used to her new bed and sleep peacefully in it soon!

Joey’s Artworks

Joey brings home her artwork once every few weeks, so I thought of documenting it by snapping photos of them.

School life is awesome! =D Everything’s so colorful!
