Big thanks to Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, Singapore and Profero (Digital marketing agency of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, Singapore), I got to attend a preview screening of Disney’s latest 3D animation – ‘Mars Needs Moms’ with Joey. We were super duper excited because IT WAS OUR FIRST 3D MOVIE EVER!!!!!
Pardon my little over-excitement, but I’ve heard so much about 3D animations and movies, but haven’t had a chance to go watch one. Animations have never been my thing, but Disney never disappoints, right?? =)
The preview was held at The Cathay, and I felt so privileged to be one of the first to watch this movie before it’s officially launched on 10 March!
My girl tells me that popcorns is a must for movies. =P And since this is one of our rare movie outings, I relented! Haha..
Check out my girl in her stylo 3D glasses!!! =D
The very sua-ku me thought that it’s going to be the typical red-on-one-side and green-on-the-other flimsy glasses. But of course, since the 3D glasses are on loan and must be returned at the end of the movie, they have to be durable ones like these. Joey kept asking me how come it’s not red and green! =X
Now, what do I think about ‘Mars Needs Moms’??
One word: AWESOME.
I was totally captivated by the whole movie from the beginning to the end! Perhaps it was my 1st 3D movie, so I was so impressed. But more than that, I love the storyline and the many themes emphasized in the movie.
As with many children in real life, the little boy in the movie felt that his mom nags too much and always makes him do things that he does not want to do, like throwing out the trash. But only when his mom was taken captive by the Martians, he began to realise how important his mom is to him, and that she truly loves him. The boy showed so much courage and fearlessness in a strange environment, which was very admirable. He also demonstrated faithfulness towards his friend and refused to give up saving his friend no matter how difficult it was. The ending of the movie also ended on a very touching note when the mom wanted to sacrifice her own life to keep her son alive. The only friend on Mars that the little boy had also found true love. =) Those were all very good learning points for my daughter, who watched the entire movie without moving an inch!
Having said that, I still felt that the movie was perhaps more suitable for older children, especially those in Primary school. My daughter may have been captivated by all the drama and action in the movie, she could not understand a lot of what was said. An older kid would be able to appreciate the movie a lot more, and leave the cinema with meaningful thinking points. The Martians look somewhat scary to some kids because they look like aliens, so some younger kids may not cope well. Thankfully, my daughter was very okay, and some of my friends’ kids (especially the boys!) thought the Martians were cool! Haha..
All in all, I enjoyed myself tremendously and I’d strongly recommend this movie to parents with Primary school kids or just anyone looking for entertaining movies to watch. Now, if you’re really interested to watch this movie, I have good news for you! Walt Disney Motion Pictures has kindly given me 14 movie passes to be given to readers of this blog!
