I just got back from a very good trip to Bangkok, and it’s awesome not because of the food or the shopping, but simply because of quality time I spent with hubby. The last time we went overseas alone without the kids was three years ago to Taipei when I was pregnant with Jayne. It was not exactly a very relaxing trip for me because I was struggling with the first trimester’s whole day sickness. The last three years had been so busy and packed every single day with the kids, so we were really thankful that we could go on this trip to rejuvenate and very plainly, have a good sleep without any disturbance. =P
We last visited Bangkok about 4 years ago and I must say the country had not changed much! Even the night markets and shopping malls seemed to be selling the same stuffs as they did four years ago! So, we did not buy as many stuffs as we thought we would, even though we spent a lot of time shopping. By the end of Day 1, my whole body was already aching like mad!
What I love about the streets of Bangkok is how colourful it is. The cabs are in rainbow colours and are literally everywhere at every corner.
We took taxis everywhere we went in Bangkok. I wish Singapore cabbing can be as cheap!
We reached Bangkok bright and early at 8am, and went shopping for a new pair of wedding bands!
This whole stretch had a few silver and jewellery shops all named Lin’s Silver. Haha! We know Lin’s Silver is famous, but we won’t know which is the ‘authentic’ one. Anyway, we did find what we wanted, so all’s good! =D
Chose to stay at Amari Watergate Hotel this time round because we’ve heard good reviews, and I love good hotel stays!! =D It turned out to be a perfect choice for us. The location was pppppeeeerrfect, and everything about the hotel was great!
The hotel’s located just opposite the road from the Platinum Fashion Mall which was a huge shopping heaven!
The hotel lobby was nice and huge and everyday when we passed by this area, our emails and messages got downloaded as there’re free wifi at all the common areas of the hotel. =) The staff were all efficient, polite and very kind people, who made our stay a very pleasant one. Paid about $150/night inclusive of great breakfast buffet, so it’s still pretty affordable. I definitely recommend this hotel if you’re planning to visit Bangkok!
Our room was located on the 18th floor, and it was a big spacious room! The bed was king-sized and there was a lounger and a single-seat sofa. The other side of the room had a super long writing table that ran the entire length of the wall!Love it!
The bathroom was complete with bath tub, shower room AND a separate toilet cubicle. Awesome!
Not wanting to waste anytime, we quickly dashed out to the streets after a quick check-in! I absolutely love the streets of Bangkok – So vibrant and colourful. And everywhere you turn to, you find somebody making a livelihood. Simple folks, simple living.
Our first meal was at The Platinum Fashion Mall’s foodcourt. Cheap and good! =)
We had fried chicken cutlet with rice and tom yam soup with glass noodles..
And desserts of banana chocolate crepe and mangoes with sticky rice! Authentic Thai food!!! =)
Absolutely enjoying ourselves! =)
