Desserts Made Easy By Philips Jamie Oliver Hand Blender

Sponsored Review

Remember my first post on Philips Jamie Oliver hand blender here? Not only is the hand blender useful for creating main courses for the family, it also came in very useful when I was making desserts and drinks for everyone. This is undoubtedly the most useful tool in my kitchen to-date.

Strawberry smoothie was done in a jiffy with the hand blender. All I needed to do was to get the ingredients ready - Fresh strawberries, ice cubes, yoghurt, sugar and of course, my trusty hand blender.

Add sugar to diced strawberries.

Put everything into container with yoghurt and ice cubes.

Blend till everything's become a thick frosty liquid form.

Happy kid gives thumbs up for yummy strawberry smoothie done in 5 minutes.

I am not shy to say that I created this cake. Seriously, the inspiration came one day when I opened one of my kitchen cabinets and found several bars of these Apollo chocolate wafers. They were a huge part of my childhood and I thought how nice it would be if I made a cake out of them. So, I did.

Measured out my self-raising flour and sugar as I would for any other cakes.

The girl helped me to unwrap all the wafers. She'll make one fine baker next time simply because of her passion for it.

Pop the chocolate wafers into the mincer. Haha, yes mincer.

So easy to operate that my girl can do it all by herself.

Pour out the finely chopped-up wafers into a bowl and blend in the rest of the ingredients.

You can do the blending by hand or engage the help of the hand blender.

Pour the mixture into the baking tin and bake in the oven.

My cake may not look that nice but it tasted awesome with heavenly Apollo chocolate taste! =D

A saviour on a hot day.

This was as easy as ABC. Take out all the mango flesh and cut into small cubes.

Put everything into the mincer and after a mere 10 seconds, everything becomes fine puree. :)

Scoop the mango puree into ice pop moulds and freeze overnight.

Do I need to say more? My Philips Jamie Oliver hand blender has proven its worth in my kitchen by helping me whip up main courses for the family, as well as drinks and desserts after a good meal. It not only gets the job done fast, it also does it well. As a busy mom, I definitely appreciate the time-saver bit - It frees me up to do more things with very limited time. Absolutely love it! If you are looking for a nifty kitchen tool that can help in your food preparation, I strongly recommend the Philips Jamie Oliver range. :)

Keep life simple with PHILIPS | Jamie Oliver range includes Food Processor (S$268), Hand Blender (S$128) and Hand Blender (S$108). Available at leading electronics and departmental stores.

P/S: This is part of my on-going conversations with Philips, and I received compensation for the review. All opinions, comments and photographs are mine though.

Cafe Hop: Baker & Cook

My heart quietly jumped when the husband declared that once a month, we will splurge on a brunch on our off days. Brunches might be a common weekly affair for some of you, but for my husband who does not eat breakfasts and think that exorbitantly-priced brunches are abominations, this is nothing short of a miracle. I do agree that brunches are crazily overpriced though - seriously, how can some eggs, toast, bacon and sausages cost more than 20 bucks?!

But of course, off days are meant to be enjoyed and since hubby has declared such a privilege, we headed to Baker & Cook yesterday. We've tried their breads once when visiting a friend's house nearby, and hubby had been thinking of it since. Located at Hillcrest Road, this cafe is right smack in the middle of a landed residential area, along a stretch of shops. But it being away from the crowded and more central venues, makes it rather unique and a good choice away from crowds.

The name of the cafe already tells you that they pride themselves on the breads they bake. I've tried those with lots of grains and nuts, and they are awesome - you can really taste how healthy and fresh every bite is.

The interior of the cafe only has one long wooden table. Most of the customers take the alfresco seats outside anyway.

Hubby ordered toasts that come served with three types of jam (apricot, mixed berries, strawberry) and butter.

And he also ordered granola with natural yoghurt, which he said was superb. Not my type of breakfast though - I've always preferred savoury to sweet.

And so, of course I need to have the full works. Bacon is a must, and any place that gives me good crispy bacon is a must-come-back again. A very hearty breakfast but set me poorer by $17.

Coffee come in two sizes of your choice, and is served with a small piece of brownie.

Love and treasure the quiet and relaxing time spent with hubby. If you are in Bukit Timah area and looking for a place to chill out, check out Baker & Cook. :)

Her Good 90 Years

How many people have the good fortune to live to ripe old age of 90, surrounded by children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who love them?

My hubby's grandmother is one such blessed woman. Over the weekend, we celebrated her 90th birthday at a restaurant in JB, but more than the good food, it was the presence of all the children and their children + children's children that made it all the more meaningful.

Hubby is her eldest grandson.

And Joey is her first great grand-daughter. :)

So blessed that my kids have the opportunity to know their great grandmother. They may not be able to communicate with her because she speaks Hakka and they cannot understand the language, at least they will memories of such a gentle great grandmother in their childhood. So precious. I only have faint memories of my own grandmother taking care of me until I was about three years old, and I guard those memories with great fondness.

I always love to see the affection between hubby and his grandma - So heart-warming. :)

All the grandchildren & great grandchildren with Old Grandma! :D

The food was nothing fantastic, but like I said, it was the fellowship that mattered.

It is only during such occasions when the second-level cousins get to meet and play together.

Happy birthday Great Grandma! May the Lord continue to bless you with good health, energy, joy and peace in your heart everyday. :)
