Little Projects: Mini Candy Bar

I am not a person who can sit still and do nothing. In fact, my whole mind is always bustling with little ideas and thoughts about something new I can try and do. Yes, you can say I am a hyperactive adult. I don’t deny that.

Last week, we wanted to do a little party for the children in my cell group as a post-children’s day celebration. After a little planning, we decided to order McDonalds, set up a candy buffet line and play the Smurfs’ movie for the kids. It was going to be fuss-free because the candy buffet was kindly sponsored by a company who wanted me to try out their services and blog about it, and everything else was easy to arrange. Alas, on the morning of the party, I got an email from the person-in-charge of the candy company that she had been hospitalised and could not do the buffet line for us that night. So, I decided to create my own candy buffet! It was going to be a ‘mini’ one though, as it was barely 8 hours to the party. Nevertheless, it turned out to be a little project that I really had fun doing! :)

Presenting my mini candy bar!

I bought 10 types of candies and snacks from the supermarket such as lollipops, gummies, marshmallows, mentos, M&Ms, skittles, honey stars, maltesers etc. It was a colourful presentation! The little ladybug wooden pegs were bought from the supermarket as well – $2 for a pack of 12. =)

Then I bought transparent glass containers from Daiso for $2 each, and printed names of each sweet & snack and pasted onto the wooden pegs to label the items individually. Tip: Get different assortment of sizes, heights and shapes to make the presentation more interesting.

Finally, to complete the look, I also bought a mini easel from Daiso and printed a signage ‘Mini Candy Bar’ and set it up. Tip: Set up the candy bar on a low table so that the kids can see, choose and pick their selection easily.

I had such great fun putting everything together, and super a lot of effort to keep my girls from touching it before cell group meeting started!

As it was a party for the kids, we also prepared small gifts for all the little ones. =D Fruit juices and fruit sauces for the babies and toddlers…

And mini water shooters for the older kids! =) Most of us were going for a church retreat next month, and thought it’d be fun if the kids could all bring their water shooters along! Tip: Tagging the gifts individually will prevent confusion as to who has taken the gift and who has not. It will also give the kids a deeper sense of identity as they see their own names on the gifts.

God bless all the wonderful little ones in our midst! Let them grow up strong, healthy, wise and loving God! Thank you for bringing so much joy and laughter into our lives! =)
