This is not the first year 'I Hug My Mom' project is being run, but this is the first year my family participated in it. Am I glad we decided to join in the project, because Mother's Day cannot get more meaningful than this!
The 'I Hug My Mom' project is run by City Harvest Church and supported by the Singapore Kindness Movement. Basically, at various parts of Singapore, we have groups of volunteers encouraging members of public to give their mums a hug and we would take photographs and upload it onto a Facebook contest page where they can then get their friends to like the photo. The photo with the most likes would win a $100 voucher. More than the prizes, what the project really hopes to do is to spread some love and encourage the children to show their affection to their mums on Mother's Day. From the many wide smiles we saw on the faces of the mums, we know a small act like hugging is enough to touch their hearts. There was even a mum who teared because she was so touched!
We met up with our cell group friends to head down to our gathering point at Causeway Point together. The kids are very excited to be part of the project as well! That was my original intention when I wanted to join the project as well - It would be wonderful for the kids to play a part in spreading the message of love and kindness as well, and I feel it is important to drive home this message from young.

The young people made colourful placards to be used in the photographs and to encourage members to public to take part in this project. :)

Many people were very supportive of the project! We managed to capture 120 hugs in less than 2 hours! :) I love the smiles and happiness in the air, as the children hugged and kissed their mums. We should really show our love openly more often, especially to those people who really matter in our lives. Our mums are definitely one of them!!!

The kids were amazing - They helped to give out the thank-you cards to the participants, and helped us spot mother-and-children groups who walked past us. Haha! Then when they got tired, they retreated to the air-conditioned mall, and entertained themselves while the adults continued to work hard at getting hugs! :)

Two hours under the hot sun was a lot of hard work, but we had so much fun as well!

Obviously, you can tell that the youths & children had no difficulty doing a decent jump shot while the 'older youths' were struggling. =P![]()
Thank you dear friends for being part of this meaningful project together! :D
