It's Mother's Day weekend, and because my mum often appears on my blog, instagram & facebook (Mostly her yummy food!!), I was thinking of something fresh that I can talk about her in my blog. And I reckon I can try to jot down five things I adore about her. Cliche as it may sound, my mum's the BEST in the world!
My mum has gone for several mission trips with her church friends before, to visit orphanages in Indonesia. Before she goes, she would do a fund-raising in Church by selling her home-baked goodies. Then she would bring the donations and more home-baked cookies over to Indonesia to visit them. Every time she comes back from a trip, she would tell me how blessed my kids are, to have doting parents and grandparents and a comfortable home, compared to the poor kids in the Orphanage. There is so much love and compassion in her eyes when she mentions them. MY MUM HAS A HEART OF GOLD.

Even though my mum never really enjoyed cooking, she developed an interest in baking some years back. Because of that, she has gone for baking classes, collected recipes upon recipes and tried out many of them before. From apple pies to chicken pies and all kinds of cakes, muffins and breads, she keeps baking and baking until her bakes are perfected. Each time, she would try with a different ingredient and see how the combination turns out to be. She would let all of us try her creations and ask for our feedback on how to make them better. She doesn't give up after failing a few times. She just keep trying and trying until she gets it right. MY MUM HAS A PERSEVERING SPIRIT.
Before my mum became a passionate baker, she was a passionate florist. She loves flowers and all kinds of leaves & ferns. More than once, she's made my dad stop the car by the roadside because she spotted some lovely leaves & flowers. She took up all kinds of floral arrangement classes and arranged many pots of flowers at home. She took photographs of all her floral arrangements and filed them neatly for future reference. That's the thing about my mum - Once she develops an interest in something, she would go all out to grow her skill in it by doing it over and over again until she becomes so good at it. That, to me, is a spirit of excellence. MY MUM IS PASSIONATE IN HER MANY HOBBIES.
My mum is constantly thinking about the welfare of my kids and I. OK to be fair, more for my kids than me. Haha! But it's obvious when she buys all kinds of good food to cook for the kids whenever we visit during the weekends. She shows her love for me by taking initiative to help feed the kids during mealtimes so that I get to relax and have a good meal. Every now and then, she would buy new clothes and toys for the kids. When we meet during the weekends, her face lights up instantly when she sees them. She would patiently answer their every whim & fancy. MY MUM IS A DOTING GRANDMOTHER.

Like many old couples who complain about each other all the time, my mum loves to complain to me about my dad. When I was a little girl, I was often affected by the things she said and constantly worried if they were going to split up! But as I grew up, I began to realise that it was their weird way of showing affection for each other as well. They may complain all the time, but they are always looking out for each others' needs and serving each other just like husbands and wives do. They would buy each others' favourite food home, and spend their evenings together watching TV and reading newspapers side by side. It's a kind of sweetness for their generation. MY MUM IS A DEVOTED WIFE.
