Last Friday, I attended the Parent-and-Child Sports Day at Jayne's childcare centre. What I thought would be a rather boring event turned out to be pretty fun after all.
The fun element didn't come from the briefing nor the very simple games we played, but rather from seeing Jayne hanging around with her classmates. They are such a sweet bunch of four-year-olds! :) I was so glad I made it to the event - Can't imagine how disappointed were the kids whose parents didn't turn up. Having said that, it's quite impressive how many parents did turn up. The event was at 530pm - That meant that most of the parents took leave just to attend the event!

The kids were waiting at the basketball court while the parents attended a short briefing by the Principal on the activities done by the kids in school and what objectives the school hoped to achieve this year. When Jayne saw us walk towards the basketball court, she was elated! That totally made my trip worthwhile. :)

We begun with some warm-ups. Half of the parents were obediently doing the warm-ups, and the other half were busy snapping photographs.

It was so fun watching my girl - She takes instructions extremely well. While many of the kids ran to their parents and refused to leave their side, she listened to her teacher and stayed where the kids were supposed to. She just couldn't stop waving to us all the time. Haha!

I felt very proud looking at my girl - She totally shone and stood out on the basketball amongst so many kids. Totally biased I know. =X

The various classes took turns to play games, and Jayne's N2 class was to play the chicken & egg game - which explains the chicken headgear on all their heads. =P This girl is called Huixin - I've heard Jayne mention her umpteen times. I know everything that she's done in school. LOL!

So cute these girls!!! :D

See the good turnout by the parents - Really admirable.

The kids from every class played different games allocated to them, then their parents would play a modified version of the game together with their kids.

It was the first official school event that we've attended at Jayne's school, so we were pretty excited!

See the determined look on Jayne's face.

She really ran her best - Bravo!!!

She ran so fast, she overtook quite a few of her classmates.

But it was not quite the same when it was my turn to join her for the game. =P She had to step on my feet and we were to hold a balloon between the two of us and I had to walk (with her feet on mine) to the finishing line. We finished last. Don't ask me why. =X

Kudos to many of the parents who were sporting and played their best. It was a simple and short event, but we had fun. :)

The school event prepared snacks for everyone - Hotdog buns, chicken nuggets and samosa.

Before we left, Jayne's teacher handed her a medal which said, "If you had fun, you won!" - How nice! :)

I was really glad I went for the event although I initially replied the school that I couldn't make it. If not for anything else, my presence there would encourage Jayne so much. I saw how her eyes lit up when she saw hubby and I at her school. Way before the event, she had been telling us what we would do at the Sports Day, so I knew she was looking forward to it. Once again, I am reminded that I do not wish to miss any important milestone in my kids' lives. I want to be there to witness and be a part of different events, whether big or small, in their lives and not hear it from someone else. That, to me, is the most meaningful thing about being a mom. :)
