Joey was invited for a baking class with the RichMinds Academy last weekend, and she thoroughly enjoyed it!
RichMinds Academy is a school that focuses on teaching children financial literacy, helping them to understand the value of money and learn to appreciate the things that they have. Through Day Camps where children play different games and activities, they learn about important principles concerning money from a young age. The baking class that Joey attended was a subset of the Day Camp that took place last week. Through the baking class, the children learnt baking skills, as well as simple lessons that money must be earned by working (as a baker or any other professions), and the money earned can be spent, saved or built up using other means (investment for example). In December, she will be attending the full Day Camp, where she will learn more in this area.
When I told Joey that she was going for a baking class, she was elated! She loves helping my mum when she's baking, and this was a chance for her to bake her own cookies!
She looked so cute in her pink polka dotted apron & chef hat! =D
The class was going to make gingerbread man that day! The dough had been prepared by the teacher beforehand, so all the kids needed to do was to roll the dough out and use the cookie cutters to cut out their desired shapes before baking them in the oven.
The class was easy to follow, and the teacher went around to help the kids who had difficulties. Joey did everything super well - So proud of her! Throughout the class, she was so focused at completing her tasks. Just look at her serious expressions!
Final stage before baking was to dust on egg yolk..
Joey and her proud creations! :) Doesn't the speck of flour on her cheeks make her look so pro?? =P
Then the cookies were sent to the oven, and the final stage was to decorate the gingerbread man with icing!
I thought this was the most difficult part because the icing was hard to control. Nevertheless, the kids all did a great job decorating their cookies!
Happy to have made her 1st batch of cookies! :)
Thanks to RichMinds for Joey's 1st baking experience! If you are interested in their baking classes as well, check out their website for more information. There are many other interesting classes available for sign-up as well. :)
