Kids-Friendly Cafe: Eat.Play.Love Craft Cafe

Remember I visited the Eat.Play.Love craft cafe recently and blogged about it here?

Well, because there was a private party going on that Saturday we went, I decided to bring the kids again yesterday because we had to bring Joey for her medical review, and so both kids didn't go to school. It's always good to go anywhere on Mondays because that's when the weekend crowds are gone. :)

There were zero kids, so my kids had the whole place to themselves. :P For $5 per head, you can do art and craft using all the materials provided in the cafe for two hours. There are lots of little stuffs and materials provided such as fabric balls, felt cloth, paper, strings, glitter glue, scissors, colouring pencils, hole punchers, markers etc. You can also find many recycled materials such as egg crates, cardboards etc.

The girls were a little lost when we started. They were not used to the concept of 'freeplay crafting'. Usually, they will be guided along during art and craft sessions, and to give them free rein to create whatever they like using whatever they wish is not so easy. But I love this idea! I think kids should be given the space to create and design what they can think up, and use available materials to translate it from idea to actual. In my opinion, this is how creativity can be honed and improved.

If I have the space in my house, I would absolutely create a corner like this and let the girls craft during their free time. Way better than wasting time on TV, for sure!

For kids who really cannot think of what to create, they can just check out the wall full of artwork left behind by other kids.

In the end, Joey created a door sign for her bedroom. Really nice, I think! :D

And Jayne as usual, her super artistic doodles! =P

Of course, we took the table nearest to the craft area so that we can watch the kids play. Such a wonderful place to chill and enjoy an afternoon while the kids enjoy crafting. It would be perfect if the seats are changed to sofas though! Haha..

And yea, like I mentioned previously, you can find retro and vintage snacks and toys in that cafe. We bought some home simply because we can never resist childhood goodness that pops up in front of our eyes. :)

Address here! They are open everyday from 12pm to 10pm, except Tuesdays (Kitchen closed between 3pm to 6pm, with only cakes, desserts and drinks available at that time).

Post-script: Eat.Play.Love cafe revised their charges for the craft area. On weekdays, it's still $5 for 2 hours, but on weekends, it would be $5/hour.

The Reading Room

Happiness is when I stumble upon a really lovely place to chill in, and I did just that last week when I passed by The Reading Room, and went in for a coffee because it looked so cosy. Just 5 minutes inside the cafe, I decided that I would go back again. It's my kind of cafe. :)

The cafe has such a name because in the cafe is a HUGE library collection of novels for all the customers to read free-of-charge. The only thing is you cannot bring the novels home. =P It is the perfect place to do some quiet reading while sipping a latte and munch on a slice of cake.

Love the furnishing of the cafe - Lots of vintage charm and collectibles everywhere. I noticed that the boss of the cafe especially love antique phones - Found several different designs in the cafe. :)

Lots of sitting corners for the customers to have a good read but have some privacy.

Towards the back end of the cafe, there is a separate corner with a pool table, more tables & chairs and vintage collectibles. I think it's a perfect place to have a small private party.

I will surely be back again. :)

Eight Cafe & Bar

Yesterday, I had the chance to take a short stroll around the Chinatown neighbourhood while looking for a place to have lunch at. The vintage wooden gates and these colourful sofa caught my attention and I decided to have lunch at this place called Eight Cafe & Bar. Vintage furniture always make me smile.

Every Tue - Fri, they offer a different lunch set at $8.80 each that comes with a soft drink. That day, the set was Rendang Chicken with rice. You may also opt for a slightly more expensive set lunch of Fried Dory with french fries at $9.80. Both prices are nett.

Stepped into the cafe and I loved it immediately. Wooden beams at the ceiling, retro and vintage furniture and fittings everywhere. Too much eye candy for me.

One of these days, I'll go back and try their crabmeat linguine for dinner!

Food was served in less than five minutes flat.

I enjoyed my lunch very much. The rendang chicken was flavorful and fragrant, and the rice and salad went very well with it. The portion was just right too. For $8.80 nett, I thought that's really worth it. I would surely recommend this to my friends. :)

The Professional Blogger's Kids

The last time I went for a photo walk with Master ABC, he shared with us that he sometimes like to call out to passer-bys as they walk past him, just so that he can capture their immediate reaction & expression on camera. I don't have that kind of courage to do that to passer-bys yet, because who knows whether they would box me or something? So, I decided that it is the safest to practise it on my kids. These are their first reactions when I shouted, "Take photo!"

My kids are sometimes very patronizing, as you can see. =P

The subsequent poses look a little more normal when I said, 'Smile properly!!'

It's not easy to be kids of bloggers, you know? After a while, they become so super professional, ever-ready with a smile, responds immediately when mummy wants to capture a shot. Sometimes they have to pose for very long until I get a good-enough photo! When we are out for media invite, even when they are enjoying themselves so much during the event, they are interrupted constantly to pose for me. I give them 100 points for being always cooperative! =P
